- 1941 - Joe DiMaggio beats out Ted Williams for the 1941 American League MVP. Williams had hit .406, the last major leaguer to hit .400.
- 1947 - Joe DiMaggio again edges out Ted Williams for the MVP, this time by one point. One writer did not register a vote for Williams; Ted will lay the blame on writer Mel Webb, who was not even eligible to vote that year.
- 1953 - Al Rosen is the unanimous choice for the 1953 American League MVP.
- 1974 - Bowie Kuhn (pictured) suspends New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner for two years for illegal campaign contributions to Republicans such as Richard Nixon.
- 1987 - Braudilio Vinent strikes out his 2,000th batter in Cuban National League play, the first player to reach that mark.
