- 1986 - Roger Clemens wins the AL Cy Young Award unanimously, joining Denny McLain (1968) as the only two pitchers ever to do so.
- 1997 - Ken Griffey, Jr. becomes the ninth unanimous pick for the American League Most Valuable Player Award.
- 1998 - Villa Clara third baseman Rafael Orlando Acebey becomes the first Cuban infielder to turn an unassisted triple play.
- 1998 - The demolishing of Osaka Stadium, the former home of the Nankai Hawks, begins.
