November 17: Today's featured birthday is that of Paul Sorrento, who turns 59.
- 1901 - In one of only three known instances in major league history, an intentional walk is issued with the bases loaded. Nap Lajoie (pictured) gets the free pass here.
- 1945 - The St. Louis Cardinals trade Mort Cooper to the Boston Braves for Red Barrett and $60,000. Cooper had won 20 games three years in a row but had twice deserted the team due to salary concerns.
- 1978 - The Boston Red Sox are sold to a group including Jean Yawkey, Buddy LeRoux and Haywood Sullivan.
- 1995 - Kevin Foster and Marvin Freeman become the tenth pitcher combination in the major leagues in the 20th Century to hit home runs against each other in the same game.
- 2002 - Shawn Green snaps a 0-for-15 slump by homering four times and setting a major league record with 19 total bases. He goes six for six and ties the National League record with five extra-base hits.
