- 1893 - The National League moves the pitcher's mound back five feet, to its current distance of 60' 6" from home plate. This will significantly increasing offensive levels for the rest of the decade.
- 1946 - Marvin Williams of Equipo Vargas drives in eight runs in a 16-9 win, setting the Venezuelan League record.
- 1978 - Hack Wilson and Warren Giles are voted into the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.
- 1995 - Leon Day (pictured), Richie Ashburn, Vic Willis and William Hulbert are elected to the Hall of Fameby the Veterans Committee.
- 2012 - Enrique Esteban Díaz gets his 2,357 hit in Cuba, breaking Antonio Pacheco's record.
