- 1901 - Doc Parker gives up a National League-record 21 runs in a loss to Brooklyn. His 26 hits allowed is tied for the most in the 20th Century.
- 1917 - Red McKee's mental lapse pays off. The San Francisco Seals player tries to steal third base even though the bases are loaded. The stunned Salt Lake City Bees pitcher balks, bringing in a run.
- 1952 - The Harrisburg Senators sign Eleanor Engle as a publicity stunt. She does not play a game before the powers that be outlaw women in Organized Baseball.
- 1970 - Cesar Gutierrez (pictured) breaks an 0-for-18 slump by going 7 for 7, the first player in the majors in the 20th Century to collect seven hits in a contest. He entered the game hitting .218.
- 1972 - Bob Gibson wins his 211th game, breaking Jesse Haines' record by a St. Louis Cardinals pitcher.
