- 1893 - Piggy Ward reaches base for the 17th consecutive plate appearance, the all-time major league record.
- 1927 - Jack Scott hurls complete games in both ends of a doubleheader, the last major leaguer to do so. He wins the opener, 3-1, and loses the nightcap, 3-0.
- 1942 - Paul Waner (pictured) connects for his 3,000th hit, doing so against Rip Sewell and the Pittsburgh Pirates, the club with which he spent almost his entire career.
- 1972 - The United States Supreme Court rules against Curt Flood in his challenge of the antitrust exemption for baseball.
- 1989 - Dwight Gooden becomes the second-quickest pitcher in major league history to 100 wins, having only 37 losses to his name. Only Whitey Ford reached that number in fewer decisions.
