- 1876 - George Hall hits for the cycle. He becomes the first player in Major League history to do so.
- 1952 - Warren Spahn fans 18 batters to tie the National League record held by Jim Whitney. The only run for the Braves is a solo homer by Spahn.
- 1974 - Nolan Ryan strikes out 19 in a 13-inning effort. The Angels top the Red Sox, 4-3, in 15 innings; Luis Tiant goes the distance for Boston.
- 1995 - Mike Benjamin, a .186 hitter entering the season, sets a major league record with 14 hits in a three-day period thanks to a 6-for-7 contest today.
- 1996 - Cal Ripken Jr. (pictured) plays in his 2,216th consecutive game, breaking Sachio Kinugasa's world record.
