November 16: Today's featured birthday is that of Hector Fajardo, who turns 54.
- 1946 - Ted Williams drives in eight runs in the first game of a doubleheader. For the second contest, Indians manager Lou Boudreau introduces the Williams shift.
- 1967 - Eddie Mathews becomes the seventh player to have hit 500 career homers, going deep against Juan Marichal.
- 1968 - One year after Mathews, his long-time teammate Hank Aaron reaches the 500-home run level as well, the eighth player to do so. Mike McCormick is the victim.
- 1970 - In the 1970 All-Star Game, Pete Rose (pictured) barrels over AL catcher Ray Fosse to give the NL a 5-4 win in the 12th inning. The play is controversial because Fosse did not have the ball at the time. Contrary to the urban legend that will build over the years, Fosse avoids serious injury.
- 2002 - While working on his roof, all-time minor league home run king Nelson Barrera is electrocuted. He had still been an active player at the time of his demise.
