- 1902 - Bill Dineen (pictured) jumps from the Boston Beaneaters to the Boston Americans. He will help his new team to the 1903 World Series title.
- 1942 - Rogers Hornsby is voted into the Hall of Fame as the 14th member.
- 1977 - Mary Shane is hired by the Chicago White Sox as the first female play-by-play announcer.
- 1998 - Steve Hinton hits four home runs, an Australian Baseball League record. An ABL-record nine homers are slugged altogether by Hinton's Brisbane Bandits.
- 2005 - Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg are voted into the Hall of Fame.
