- 1896 - Western League president Ban Johnson (pictured) states that the league should be considered a major circuit, not a minor one.
- 1956 - The Cleveland Indians are sold for almost $4 million. Among the new owners is former baseball star Hank Greenberg, the team's General Manager.
- 1972 - Hank Aaron signs for $200,000 with the Atlanta Braves, setting a new record for highest salary.
- 2000 - The Newark Bears invite Darryl Strawberry to join the team while he serves a suspension with Major League Baseball for cocaine use.
- 2000 - Turkey Stearnes, Sparky Anderson and Bid McPhee are elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.
