- 1939 - Red Barber calls the game in the first televised game in major league history. The Reds and Dodgers split a twin bill.
- 1947 - Dan Bankhead (pictured) becomes the first African-American pitcher in the National or American leagues. He homers in his first at-bat but allows 6 runs in 3 1/3 IP.
- 1962 - The Cubs lay down a National League record three straight sacrifice hits in the 6th inning. Ken Hubbs is safe on a fielder's choice on one of them, while Dick Ellsworth added a bunt hit earlier in the inning.
- 1994 - Ichiro Suzuki, a rookie with the Orix BlueWave, reaches base for the 68th game in a row, setting a new Nippon Pro Baseball record.
- 1999 - Randy Johnson reaches 300 strikeouts in his 29th game of the season, becoming the fastest player to 300 K.
