- 1906 - The Chicago White Sox make American League history, by starting a 19-game winning streak.
- 1959 - Jim Bunning becomes the first American League pitcher since 1928 to strike out the side on nine pitches.
- 1960 - Plans for the Continental League, a proposed third major league, officially die out.
- 1979 – New York Yankees catcher Thurman Munson (pictured) dies in a plane crash.
- 1982 - Rickey Henderson becomes the first player in baseball history to steal 100 bases in a season twice in his career.
