April 24: Today's featured birthday is that of Herman Segelke, who turns 66.
- 1930 - Bud Clancy of the White Sox spends all nine innings of a game at first base but handles no chances.
- 1971 - Curt Flood leaves the Washington Senators after 13 games, ending his major league career. Flood has filed an antitrust suit against Major League Baseball.
- 1983 - Nolan Ryan (pictured) breaks Walter Johnson's 56-year-old record for strikeouts by a pitcher as he whiffs the 3,508th batter of his MLB career. Brad Mills is the victim.
- 1994 - Scott Erickson throws the first no-hitter in the history of the Minnesota Twins. He had led the 1993 AL in hits allowed.
- 2006 - After throwing a bat at an International League umpire, Delmon Young is suspended indefinitely. The Durham Bulls player is considered to be one of the top prospects in the minor leagues.
