November 26: Today's featured birthday is that of Sam Militello, who turns 55.
- 1959 - It takes just one game for Nellie Fox to beat his home run output of 1958. After going homerless in 623 AB last year, Fox takes Don Mossi deep for a two-run shot in the 14th inning to give the White Sox an Opening Day victory. Nellie has five hits overall in the game.
- 1962 - The Houston Colt .45's debut with a 11-2 rout of the Cubs. Roman Mejias hits two three-run homers and Bobby Shantz allows only five hits.
- 1979 - J.R. Richard sets a modern MLB record with six wild pitches but still beats the Dodgers 2-1, striking out 13.
- 1983 - Norihiro Komada of the Yomiuri Giants becomes the first player in Nippon Pro Baseball history to hammer a grand slam in his first at-bat.
- 1989 - 19-year-old Ken Griffey Jr. hits his first major league homer as the Mariners top the White Sox, 6-5. When Junior made his major league debut a week ago, he and his father Ken Griffey Sr. became the first father/son combination to be simultaneously active in the majors.
- 1994 - Michael Jordan (pictured) singles twice, getting the first two hits of his professional baseball career.
