Power hitting Telvin Nash began his professional career in 2009 at 18 years old. He was taken in the third round of the 2009 amateur draft by the Houston Astros, one pick after pitcher Jake Barrett. The scout was Lincoln Martin.
A three true outcomes hitter, Nash hit just one home run in 40 games his first year, but slugged 13 with 25 walks and 71 strikeouts in 240 plate appearances the next. In 2011, in 332 plate appearances, he had 14 home runs, 43 home runs and 105 strikeouts; in 2012, in just 449 PAs, he had 29 home runs, 75 RBI, 47 walks and 198 strikeouts for the Lancaster JetHawks. He went into the year ranked the #10 prospect in the Astros chain by Baseball America. The high home run, high strikeout pattern continued through the rest of his career. His succeeding home run-strikeout totals from 2013 to 2015 were, respectively, 16-93, 22-112 and 20-131. He began 2016 in independent baseball, but was signed by the Chicago White Sox June 22.
