Biographical Information[edit]
Ted Bonda was an executive in the Cleveland Indians front office during the 1970's. Bonda, while serving as Executive Vice President, was responsible for hiring Frank Robinson as the first African American manager in major league baseball. Bonda later headed a group of business men in purchasing the Indians when there was danger in losing the team to another city, serving as President and principal Owner from 1977-1979.
He also is credited with bringing the NBA's Cavaliers to Cleveland. He died in 2005 from complications from Alzheimer's disease.
