Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Tanner Burns was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in Competitive Balance Round A of the 2020 amateur draft, with the 36th overall pick. He was coming out of Auburn University where he had played three seasons, going 14-9 overall, including going 3-1, 2.42 in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the college baseball season to an abrupt halt. He had played in the 2019 College World Series with Auburn.

In his first professional season in 2021, he went 2-5, 3.57 in in 18 starts for the Lake County Captains, logging 75 2/3 innings. In 2022, he moved up to the Akron Rubber Ducks of the AA Eastern League and finished at 3-7, 3.55 in 21 starts. His workload increased to 88 2/3 innings, striking out 92 batters.

His father, Mike Burns, played in the minor leagues.
