Talk:Vermont Expos

From BR Bullpen

The 2006 Baseball Almanac says the team "was told by Major League Baseball that it would have to eliminate the Expos name by 2006." Anybody know why? The Washington Senators haven't played in over 30 years, but the Harrisburg Senators still exist. --Just me 00:23, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

The Harrisburg Senators are so named because they are a state capital team and the Senators name has been used in many such instances. It was not used solely by Washington farm teams and did not hold the same association. - --Mischa 05:40, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

I realize that, I'm just wondering why they had to eradicate the Expos name. If the local fans like it, which 60% did in a poll, they should be able to keep it. --Just me 10:02, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

MLB suits are jerks and don't care about fan input. It's that simple. - --Mischa 11:00, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

You can imagine that talk of this opens old wounds. The Harrisburg Senators were always called that while they were a farm team of the Expos. MLB is doing it's best to eliminate Montreal's history of baseball. The Nationals are not honoring our retired numbers, and the final insult will come next year when Andre Dawson will be inducted in to the HOF as a Cub. Mark my words...--Shawn 11:15, 6 September 2006 (EDT)
