Talk:Tommy John

From BR Bullpen

I find it interesting that John, Kaat, and Blyleven are all being passed over for the HOF. They all pitched through the 70's and all just missed the magic 300. And they are all in the top 7 most comparable pitchers to each other, along with some HOFs. --Jeff 22:43, 8 January 2008 (EST)

I think the problem is that there are too many of them - add in Jack Morris who also has 250+ victories. Blyleven is close, and then the others will eventually follow. - Randy 23:00, 8 January 2008 (EST)

Morris isn't going which is fine with me. Blyleven might make it, John won't, and Kaat will probably fall off before support gains for him. Some big names will going on the ballot in a few years which knock these guys down a few pegs. Clemens, Maddux, Glavine, etc. make these 280+ win totals look small. --Jeff 23:03, 8 January 2008 (EST)

Blyleven got 61.9% this year, so he's extremely close. Morris got 42.9% this year. Kaat got 63% in the most recent Veterans' vote. With those kinds of numbers, history shows they're probably going to get in. But you're right, with Clemens, Maddux, Glavine, and add in Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and maybe some others, there will be other names on the ballots in future years. - Randy 23:08, 8 January 2008 (EST)
