Talk:Tommy Holmes

From BR Bullpen

Was player-manager after major league experience for the Hartford Chiefs, a minor league team in Hartford Connecticut, and once (not sure but believe 1953 12 yrs old), while I was in the stands, down 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth, hit a pinch-hit grand slam walk-off homerun, which is my greatest baseball memory of all time behind only the Mets WC in 1969. Ironically he was later employed by the Mets as a PR Director and allowed me to visit him in his office in Shea Stadium to let him know of my memories and my appreciation. A truly nice man. fabaker@fabaker.com

Anybody know why he didn't serve in World War II? pjbthree@comcast.net

He is given a chapter in the book Baseball Between the Lines, and while he is interviewed at length about his career, the book doesn't say anything about military service. The book mentions the 1942 season and then goes to the 1945 season. - Randy 21:08, 20 April 2008 (EDT)

I think it was mentioned in his obit in the Post-Gazette but can't recall. - --Mischa 09:50, 22 April 2008 (EDT)
