Talk:Runs batted in
Please explain how the Game winning RBI is assigned. Is it assigned to the batter that drives in a run to take a lead in a game that is not lost, or otherwise?
The game-winning RBI is no longer an official statistic (it was only counted for a few years in the early 1980's). It was credited to the batter who gave the winning team the lead it would never relinquish. Example 1, Team A scores 4 runs in the first to take a 4-0 lead, and wins the game 4-3: the GWRBI is the first run scored. Example 2: Team A scores 2 runs in the first to take a 2-0 lead, then Team B scores 2 to make it 2-2, then Team A score 2 and Team B 1: in this case, the RBI on Team A's third run is the GWRBI. --Philippe 08:12, 11 May 2006 (EDT)
I remember reading that the RBI was first introduced by a local newspaper but can't remember the name. What is it? -Umbreon9talk/contribs 22:47, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
