Talk:Martín Dihigo
I removed the Dihigo quote. See this article. - --Mischa 18:23, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
Excellent point. But I still think there is truth at the core of Mize's statement. Would you accept just this portion of it? "The greatest player I ever saw was a black man. His name is Martin Dihigo." I really can't see why Mize would lie - more likely he just misremembered what year it was, since players then (as now) sometimes move around a whole lot. - Randy 18:27, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
Who says the quote is authentic, though? There are lots of fake quotes out there. What verification do we have? I'm not doubting that some people thought Dihigio was the greatest player ever, including some major leaguers. I just want to make sure we have a verifiable quote. - --Mischa 18:28, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
Here's one from Dihigo's Hall of Fame page: "I say he was the best player of all-time, black or white." - Buck Leonard - Randy 19:00, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
Sounds good. - --Mischa 19:19, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
- Dihigo's article fails 3b of the Featured Criteria, namely that it does not cite any of its sources. See comments here. --MichaelEng (talk) 12:18, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
The sources are listed at the bottom, as several sources had the same information. I added citations for all the facts. Two of the opinions you had marked with the "citation needed" would be hard to "prove". For instance, many sources recount Suttles' 1935 homer off of Dihigo, making it one of the most noted Negro League home runs - should all of these be listed to establish that it was one of the most famous? - --Mischa 19:54, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
Michael, I'll try to get to your other comments soon. I'm still catching up on edits. - --Mischa 20:20, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
