Talk:Kohei Matsuda
What is your source for the 1972 bit? I thought the Yomiuri Giants in the 1950s had trained in the US as well. - --Mischa 12:48, 13 October 2008 (EDT)
The New York Times: [1] 69.68.238.142 13:33, 13 October 2008 (EDT)
- "In 1972, the Carp became the first Japanese club to hold a training camp in the United States." 69.68.238.142 13:34, 13 October 2008 (EDT)
The Times are wrong. In 1953, the Giants trained in Santa Maria, CA. See Wally Yonamine: The Man Who Changed Japanese Baseball, pg. 136-1942. - --Mischa 13:36, 13 October 2008 (EDT)
I don't have access to that source, but I don't doubt your word. Would it be incorrect to say that in 1972 they started a training camp in the United States. They are one of the few Japanese clubs to have done so. This would neither contradict the Times or the Yonamine book. 69.68.238.142 13:44, 13 October 2008 (EDT)
Sounds reasonable. - --Mischa 15:06, 13 October 2008 (EDT)
