Talk:Kenny Lofton
Texas Ranger in 2007[edit]
I've read all the discussion, and I agree: it would be miraculous if Lofton got 3000 hits. But I don't care about his stats, not even stolen bases. What I want, as a Ranger sufferer, is for this man to play one more year, 2007, help us win, and then I don't care if he just retires or what. I would have much rather had Gary Matthews, Jr., but at least Lofton had some pretty decent years, even if they were in the 90's. -- dbrewer18tx 12 Dec. 2006 9:49 CST

Hall of Fame discussion in article[edit]
I think the Hall of Fame conjecture is a neutral point of view issue. (Plus, I think Lofton is only getting into the Hall if he buys a ticket.) --Scott 19:55, 14 July 2006 (EDT)
As the person who wrote the Hall of Fame discussion for Lofton, I tried to keep it pretty general and objective. If you look at the people who have gotten 3000 hits, they're all in the Hall (except for people like Pete Rose, who aren't in for reasons other than their hits). If you look at the people who have scored 1500 runs, they're virtually all in the Hall (except for a few 19th century guys). I'm not pushing him for the Hall, since it's too soon to see what his final numbers will be. But I am saying that he is getting to the point where the next few years are critical. If he gets to 3000 hits and 1600 runs scored, there will be no doubt that he will be a first-round Hall of Fame selection. At least, it's always been that way in the past. - Randy 15:53 8 August 2006 (EDT)
Kenny Lofton[edit]
Lofton was a key element in the SF Giants winning the NL pennant in '03. He hit well in clutch situations and played with intensity all the time. The Giants were stupid to get rid of him. He did the same thing for the Cubs the following year. He's a winner. Watch the Dodgers this year and keep an eye on what he does to win games.
Lofton's not getting 3000 hits, and probably won't get 1600 runs --Just me 20:21, 8 August 2006 (EDT)
The odds are against him getting 3000 hits, although he'll end this season with nearly 2300. He'll probably get over 2500 before he retires, and maybe get past 2750. As for the runs scored, he's already got 1414, so the odds are good he'll get past 1500, and he just might get to 1600. My point is, as he gets closer to the end, his numbers get closer to certain magic lines. And, as someone once said, with Hall of Famers you can't ever discount possibilities. If he is a Hall of Famer, he'll surprise us. If he isn't, then he won't. - Randy 21:31 8 August 2006 (EDT)
