Talk:Jerry Meals
Replays did not show conclusively that the tag made contact with the runner. They did not have the proper angle to conclusively show one way or another.
I don't know. I've seen the play from two angles, and it's pretty clear the runner was tagged. Lugo seemed to think so as well, and it's the consensus among just about everyone who's written about the play. Meals' defense of his call hasn't been very forceful either. You want to give the umpire the benefit of the doubt, but it's almost certain he blew that one. --Philippe 19:16, 27 July 2011 (EDT)
He blew the call. He's not the first ump, and he won't be the last. But let's be honest, umpires have have a better "mistake percentage" than players. Their mistakes just seem to be bigger. Unless baseball expands instant replay, that's life, time to move on. --Jeff 19:19, 27 July 2011 (EDT)
