Talk:Glenn Mickens
He was not one of the "first two players to go to Japan". Americans had been coming since Wally Yonamine in 1951 and many Hawaiian players had appeared in the 1950s, as did some former Negro Leaguers. Perhaps first MLB players? - --Mischa 22:59, 21 December 2006 (EST)
Nope. Larry Raines had already been there at least. - --Mischa 23:01, 21 December 2006 (EST)
He was identified by several sources as one of the first two, so I changed it to "one of the first former major league players" since that is correct without claiming he was one of the first two. - Randy 23:13 21 December 2006 (EST)
The BR Wiki says that Raines was in Japan before he played in the majors. So perhaps Mickens was one of the first two former major-leaguers. - Randy 23:16 21 December 2006 (EST)
Perhaps. In Fitts' book, Mickens says he and Bottler were "among the first" - maybe someone misquoted or misread that and thought they were the first? - --Mischa 13:14, 22 December 2006 (EST)
Leo Kiely was the first, 1953. - --Mischa 20:07, 10 February 2007 (EST)
