Talk:Francisco Rodriguez (disambiguation)
(Redirected from Talk:Francisco Rodríguez)
In my opinion, this page should lead to THE Francisco Rodriguez, a multiple-time All-Star who owns a very prestigious single-season record. This is what we've done in other similar cases, where one of the name holders is much more famous than any namesake (think Ryan Braun, Cliff Lee or Jose Reyes for contemporary players in the same situation). I'll then move this page to Francisco Rodriguez (disambiguation) and adjust the various links accordingly. --Philippe 03:31, 23 February 2012 (EST)
I have mixed opinions on these situations. You don't need to change all the rodrifr03 links to this one, though, instead just using a redirect, in case the rodrifr04 becomes really notable someday. Hope that makes sense - the baby woke me up early today and I didn't get enough sleep. - --Mischa 09:28, 23 February 2012 (EST)
I tend to disagree. Francisco Rodriguez (disambiguation) doesn't come up in a search, so if someone does come here looking for (04), they will go to (03), then have to click a link at the top of his page to come to Francisco Rodriguez (disambiguation), then go to the page they wanted. If Francisco Rodriguez is the disambig on the other hand, they would land on that page when they search. In general, I think the bullpen pages should be where BR links to, and if there's more than one player with the same name, that name should be the disambig. Besides, then you would avoid inconsistencies. Who's to say in every case if there is a "THE" guy, or if there isn't? --Jeff 09:36, 23 February 2012 (EST)
Jeff, what's your opinion on when there are both a major leaguer and a non-MLBer with the same name. Ex: Vic Harris links to the major leaguer, with a note referencing Vic Harris (Negro Leagues). Or Ray Brown links to a guy who played one game in the majors, when there is a Hall of Famer Ray Brown (Negro Leagues) and Ray Brown (minors03) won minor league batting and slugging titles in different seasons. I've always gone with our convention on this one (I don't think we had a set convention on Francisco Rodriguez-Ryan Braun situations) of linking to the MLBer, but wondered what others think. - --Mischa 10:02, 23 February 2012 (EST)
The convention is to link to the major leaguer unless there's someone else of that name who is much better known. Bill James is a case in point, where the primary link is to the researcher, and not to one of the two pitchers. In cases where one player is much better known than the others who have shared that name, we make the primary link to the better-known player. I've cited three examples above, but there are a lot more. In this case, the page links to Francisco the savior are something like 49, against 3 for Francisco the new Angel. In 95% of cases or more, persons will be looking for the better-known one. If they want Francis the lesser, they will need all of two clicks to reach him, and can still reach him directly from his BR page. If that's too much, the header on this page could add a direct link to the other major leaguer as well. --Philippe 10:35, 23 February 2012 (EST)
To Mischa's point, I think there's definetly a hierarchy. Major leaguers have priority, then minor leaguers. As for Bill James, I think Bill James should be the disambig, with (writer) for the writer and (jamesbi01) and (jamesbi02) for the players. I see the point about one person being the most known, however for consistency (and maybe my own OCD), I just don't think if there's multiple major leaguers with the same, that one of them should get the page. The page should be the disambig. Just my opinion. --Jeff 11:39, 23 February 2012 (EST)
Proposed move from Francísco Rodríguez to Francisco Rodríguez. K-Rod is listed as Francisco Rodríguez on B-Ref, not Francísco Rodríguez. --User:Umbreon9talk/contribs 15:22, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
Sounds fine. I am moving him now. - Mischa (talk) 16:03, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
