Talk:Barack Obama
I'll attempt a McCain page in the near future unless someone wants to beat me to it. Kinston eagle 21:57, 9 September 2008 (EDT)
Sounds reasonable. I don't know what our criteria should be for politicians. Does making one speech or vote in Congress about a baseball issue qualify? A lead role in a hearing on baseball? George W. Bush would obviously qualify even if he had never been president and Fidel Castro is clear-cut, but there is a lot of gray area here. - --Mischa 08:54, 10 September 2008 (EDT)
Should Obama and McCain have the fan category? I thought this was for people known for their actions as fans (ex. Steve Bartman) not for people who liked baseball. If so, lots of folks would get the fan tag. - --Mischa 08:49, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
I'm fine with the removal. I used George W. Bush as a sort of template for these politician pages, and that's where that category came from. 69.68.238.142 09:34, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
I would vote for removal from Bush too. - --Mischa 09:39, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
A quick check through the ex-presidents reveals that W, Bill, Bush Sr, Truman, FDR, Taft and Cleveland were all placed in the Fans category. 69.68.238.142 09:47, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
Sounds like most were left out. I don't see how we can rate some as fans and some as not. For the sake of consistency, I say remove it from the 7 who have it - --Mischa 09:49, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
Done. Rudy Giuliani is the only politician still in the Fans category. I think he is justified since he has been particularly identified and linked with the Yankees and attends many games - above and beyond just photo-op appearances. 69.68.238.142 10:19, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
Has Obama thrown out the first pitch at a ballgame yet? It's mid-June, I thought the President would have been to at least one game by now...Oaktree_b 10:04, 15 June 2009 (EDT)
- I haven't been able to find any articles about him doing so. He has had a standing invitation to throw out the first pitch at any Chicago White Sox game and he has been invited to throw out a first pitch this coming weekend during MLB's games honoring Civil Rights. Kinston eagle 10:25, 15 June 2009 (EDT)
He will throw out the first pitch at the 2009 All-Star Game - Mischa
- I guess he's really that busy? Bush was always out there it seems, whereas Obama actually has work to do. Quite the contrast between the two Presidents...Oaktree_b 22:59, 24 June 2009 (EDT)
The White House photographer's flickr account is here: [1] there are several photos of him at the game and warming up with Pujols before the game. If anyone feels like this article needs more photos, feel free to upload one or two from there. They should all be public domain as they are the work of a government employee. It's silly season in politics, huh? - --Mischa 10:54, 6 August 2012 (EDT)
