Rudy Giuliani

Former New York, NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani is an avid New York Yankees fan and during his tenure as mayor witnessed multiple Yankee championships from his front row seat at Yankee Stadium. His son typically accompanied him to the game.

He was instrumental in brokering a deal that allowed both the Yankees and New York Mets to place a minor league team in the city, as part of the New York-Penn League. Each team kept vetoing the other's attempt to locate a minor league team in the city until Giuliani stepped in and agreed to have New York pay for the construction of two ballparks: one in Brooklyn, NY that hosted the Mets' affiliate the Brooklyn Cyclones, and one in Staten Island, NY that was host to the Staten Island Yankees. He was also active at the major league level, putting together public-private partnerships to replace the city's two major league ballparks, Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium, with more modern facilities. However, the plans, revealed just as his mandate was ending in December 2001, will be scaled down by his successor, Michael Bloomberg, but will still go ahead, resulting in the opening of new Yankee Stadium and Citi Field in 2009.

As mayor, he is most famous for his campaign to combat petty crime in the city, making it much more friendly to visitors and residents, which in turn contributed to a massive rise in property values and gentrification of numerous neighborhoods. He was also mayor at the time of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and was widely praised for his role in rallying the city's residents after the trauma. His term ended shortly after that, and he later ran unsuccessfully for President before serving as President Donald Trump's highly controversial personal attorney during his Administration, being notably involved in efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, efforts which resulted in a number of indictments and in his being assessed huge fines.
