Talk:2009 Baseball World Cup

From BR Bullpen

China got in because of their appearance at the 2008 Olympics? They hosted the Olympics, so they got in "for free", so to speak. So, they also get into the World Cup for free again? Just seems a bit lucky, they weren't so hot at the Olympics... --Oaktree_b 21:35, 31 August 2009 (EDT)

It does seem stupid to me. OTOH, they clearly are #4 (or maybe #3) in Asia and if you invite four Asian countries, better them than Thailand (see 2007 Baseball World Cup). - --Mischa 09:49, 1 September 2009 (EDT)

Missing 117 player bios now that all final rosters are out - which means we have bios for about 80% of the players. I think that's far superior to any other website out there. Hopefully we can knock that figure under 100 before the tourney starts. Great work, guys! - --Mischa 20:59, 6 September 2009 (EDT)

Under 100 missing, almost half of those from China and South Korea. Of the other 20 teams, we have about 90% of the bios up - --Mischa 14:18, 7 September 2009 (EDT)

Only 75 player bios to go - we knocked off 32 in the last two days. I'm sure that will slow down now that the tourney is starting tomorrow. For countries other than Venezuela, China and South Korea, we're only missing 13 bios, meaning we have over 95% of the players from the other 19 countries. - --Mischa 21:27, 8 September 2009 (EDT)

I'm 12 games behind on the summaries after missing two days due to a conference and the sabbath. I hope to catch up by Wednesday. - --Mischa 21:10, 13 September 2009 (EDT)

This is already our 5th-biggest page, after the 3 Clemente pages and the 2009 World Baseball Classic. - --Mischa 15:33, 16 September 2009 (EDT)

I wonder if Caracas has produced players for the most countries - you have Caracas natives on the Venezuelan, Spanish and Italian clubs. - --Mischa 10:42, 18 September 2009 (EDT)

Under 50 player bios to go. 46 from China and South Korea, 3 from Venezuela, 0 from the other 19 countries - --Mischa 12:42, 18 September 2009 (EDT)

Venezuela's rosters will be done soon. Only China and South Korea not done. China will be hard - even the Chinese Wiki Baseball doesn't have articles on those 23 guys. South Korea I can probably find some information.

I'll be off Saturday and probably all of Sunday (at least until very late) for religious reasons. If someone has time to update the page with the games from those days, it would be appreciated. The CEB website for the Cup links to play-by-play and box scores for each game. - --Mischa 13:53, 18 September 2009 (EDT)

This page already has more hits than the 2007 World Cup page, both being just over 7,000. - --Mischa 17:03, 21 September 2009 (EDT)

Under 25 player bios left - 23 China, 1 South Korea, 0 from the other 20 teams. - --Mischa 13:07, 23 September 2009 (EDT)

Here is a list of photo galleries for the 2009 World Cup. Does anyone want to check which ones might be public domain? - --Mischa 09:15, 2 October 2009 (EDT)

"Final" Review:

  • 298,047 bytes of length - almost triple the 2007 page. It's our third-longest page after two Clemente pages and over 120,000 bytes more than our next non-Clemente page (the 2009 World Baseball Classic)
  • 220nd in total popularity (8,110 hits), right behind a Walter Johnson page which is about five times as old. The 2007 Cup had under 3,000 hits by the time that tournament ended, a significant increase this time.
  • 444 revisions - 4th-most behind two Clemente pages and Adrian Garrett.

We now have two links to the rosters pages which seems redundant. - Mischa (talk) 14:31, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
