Talk:2000 NPB Amateur Draft
Why did some teams get to pick one round before others? Due to where they finished the prior season? - Mischa (talk) 12:17, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
Oh, I even had trouble explaining this in Chinese haha, hope you can understood. In the drafts from 1993 to 2000, the first two rounds called “Reverse Draft”(逆指名).It’s not the teams chose the players, but the players chose team. A team can made an agreement with a player, then put him on their list, so the other teams couldn’t draft him. However, only college and shakaijin players can use this system, high school players should use lottery. They change it in 2001, which allowed every team had 2 extra spot to put players, if you used only 1 spot, you’ll have another second round to pick. If you don’t use any spot, then you can pick the first round, and then had another third round after those who use a spot. If you use both, then you’ll lost the 2nd and 3rd round. They also changed again in 2005 with a more complex system.
Thanks for clarifying! Maybe we need a NPB Amateur Draft page explaining the variations over time. Also perhaps a note each time it changed - on the 1993 page, the 2001 page and 2005 page - Mischa (talk) 16:01, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
