Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Takahiro Iwamoto debuted in Nippon Pro Baseball in 2009.

Iwamoto hit 52 homers in high school, then 16 more in college, where he was named to the Tokyo Metropolitan University League Best Nine three times. An outfielder in college, he was timed at 91 mph. He was picked in the first round in 2008 NPB draft by his hometown Hiroshima Carp. He debuted in NPB on May 28, 2009 and singled off Hiroyuki Kobayashi in his first plate appearance. For the season, he was just 5 for 33 with a double, run, RBI and 12 strikeouts.

In semi-regular action in 2010 (220 plate appearances, 61 games), Iwamoto hit .259/.279/.500 with 14 homers and 36 RBI in 212 AB, but struck out 57 times and had only six walks. He got one vote for the 2010 Central League Rookie of the Year Award. He was picked for the Japanese national team for the 2010 Intercontinental Cup.
