Biographical Information[edit]
Taichi Okazaki was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the first round of the 2004 NPB draft, but he spent his first 11 seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 29 at-bats combined with the top team. Okazaki also went 2-for-9 with the Waikiki Beach Boys in 2006. He finally got some chances when he was 33 years old in 2016, and he went 13 for 65 with the big club. Okazaki then crushed his first career home run against Luis Mendoza on June 3, 2017, and he set the Central League record for playing the most seasons before hitting his first career home run. Only Kazuhide Ishiyama used more seasons to hit a home run in NPB history (14 seasons). Okazaki hit .195/.298/.341 in 34 games that season, and he only played 6 more games for the big club before he announced his retirement in 2020.
