Biographical Information[edit]

Tadayoshi Kawabe pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Kawabe represented Japan in the 1989 Asian Championship and 1989 Intercontinental Cup. The Yomiuri Giants drafted him in the second round of the 1989 NPB draft.[1] Kawabe spent the first six seasons all in the NPB Farm Leagues. When the Giants signed Hirofumi Kono in 1996, the Nippon Ham Fighters selected Kawabe as compensation. He was the first player to use this system to change team in NPB history.[2] Kawabe finally made his NPB debut on May 12, and recorded a 4.89 ERA in 42 1/3 innings. However, he suffered a right elbow injury and missed the entire 1997 season. The Fighters released him after that season, which ended his professional career.
