The Sydney Storm played in the final two years of the Australian Baseball League, one of a string of teams representing Sydney, New South Wales.

In the 1997-1998 Australian Baseball League, Sydney finished second at 32-22-1, one game behind the Melbourne Monarchs. They were 1-2 in the round-robin playoffs to be eliminated. The star was league MVP Brendan Kingman, their DH. Kingman hit .487/.562/1.083 with 27 homers, 57 runs and 65 RBI in 44 games. He set ABL records for home runs, RBI, slugging and batting average. C Gary White (.293/.335/.541) was also an All-Star, while Glenn Williams won the Gold Glove Award as the league's best fielder.

The next year, the Storm were 21-22 and 4th of six teams. White (.365/.405/.572) was again an All-Star and won the Gold Glove Award. Also making the All-Star squad was SS Matthew Buckley (.323/.377/.449). Import outfielder Vernon Wells (.284/.337/.462) went on to a very good career in the major leagues. Dennis Holmberg was their manager.
