Biographical Information[edit]

Susumu Sato had pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Sato represented Japan in the 1963 Asian Championship.[1] The Kokutetsu Swallows signed him in 1964. Sato joined the rotation as a rookie, and collected 10 wins with a 4.17 ERA. He improved and got a 2.62 ERA with a 13-17 record in 1965. Although his pitching was solid, the Swallows were a weak team, so Sato often had many losses. He started 33 games with a 2.60 ERA in 1966, but collected a league-leading 18 losses. He missed the top ten in ERA by .03. [2] His pitching declined a little in the next year as his ERA rose to 3.82, but he still collected 10 wins. He started 12 games in 1968, then only pitched a game in 1969 due to a injury. He transferred to the Chunichi Dragons in 1971, but he still only had 6 appearances. Sato announced his retirement after the 1971 season. [3]

Overall, Sato was 50-69 with a 3.19 ERA and pitched 974 2/3 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
