Sumner Academy of Arts & Science
The Sumner Academy of Arts & Science, in Kansas City, KS, opened in 1905 as a segregated high school for African American students named Sumner High School in honor of abolitionist Charles Sumner; the high school closed in 1978 and was re-converted into a magnet school for gifted students.
