Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Stu Stauffacher pitched two seasons in the Montreal Expos system, 1985 and 1986. He was taken by the club in the 19th round of the 1985 amateur draft, a few picks after infielder Randy Velarde. He was 2-2 with 6 saves and a 4.88 ERA in 20 games (2 starts) for the Jamestown Expos his first campaign; in 31 1/3 innings, he allowed 24 hits and 35 walks (1.883 WHIP), but also struck out 56 batters—a superhuman 16.1 K/9 IP rate. He was 1-3 with a 6.45 ERA in 23 games (3 starts) for the Burlington Expos in 1986. In 51 2/3 innings that year, he allowed 53 hits and 47 walks (1.935 WHIP), while striking out 43 batters.

Overall, he went 3-5 with a 5.86 ERA in 43 games (5 starts). In 83 innings, he allowed 77 hits and 82 walks (1.916 WHIP), while striking 99 men out (10.7 K/9 IP).
