Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Steve Reed was taken 23rd overall by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1974 amateur draft, one pick ahead of infielder Rich Dauer. He pitched in the minor leagues from 1974 to 1980 and, though he had some solid seasons and briefly reached Triple-A, he never pitched in the majors.

In his first campaign, he went 7-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 13 starts for the Billings Mustangs and the next year, he was 12-8 with seven complete games, three shutouts and a 2.01 ERA in 23 games (22 starts) for the Tampa Tarpons.

By 1978, Reed was out of the Reds system after a couple down years. He joined the Milwaukee Brewers organization, posting a 1.70 ERA in 39 relief appearances for the Burlington Bees that year. He could not maintain that success, however. After posting a 5.77 ERA in 39 innings -- including a 7.88 mark in eight frames in his lone Triple-A stint -- in 1980, his career was over.

Overall, Reed went 37-41 with a 3.35 ERA in 189 games (65 starts) over seven seasons.
