Steve Lyon is a college coach.
Lyon was an assistant at Mott Community College, then baseball coach at Pontiac Catholic High School from 1979-1985 and at Notre Dame High School (Harper Woods) in 1986-1987. Steve was assistant coach at Oakland University from 1989-1993 then was head coach of Oakland University from 1994-1998, going 113-101.
Lyon became head coach at Grand Valley State University in 1999 and retired at the end of the 2012 season; he was 375-152-1 in his first 10 years there. He took the school to the 2003 Division II College World Series. In 2004, they were 46-16 to set a school record for wins and made the 2004 Division II College World Series, finishing second to Delta State University with a 12-8 loss in the finale. The school also made the 2005 Division II College World Series. They set a new record with 47 wins in 2006 and 52 in 2011.
Lyon's GVSU club also made the 2009 Division II College World Series.
