Biographical Information[edit]
Steve Gietschier was an archivist for the Ohio Historical Society and South Carolina Department of Archives and History before joining The Sporting News. He edited the paper's numerous publications, ran The Sporting News Research Center for its entire duration and contributed semiregularly to the newspaper, with columns of historical interest. He has also taught college course on American sport and baseball and has written a number of books. He was on the SABR Board of Directors.
He was honored with the Henry Chadwick Award by SABR in 2023. In 2024, his book Baseball: The Turbulent Midcentury Years won the Seymour Medal as the best baseball book of the past year.
