Biographical Information[edit]
Steve Biras not only hit 1.000 in his entire major league career, he hit 1.000 in his entire professional career. He was signed by the Cleveland Indians in August 1944, while working for the St. Louis Shipbuilding Company and playing semipro ball, and came up to the majors to rap two singles in two at-bats. The next season, he was assigned to the Wilkes-Barre Barons of the Eastern League but refused to report due to a contract dispute. He went back to shipbuilding for the rest of his life, continuing to play semipro ball. He died at 48.
