Stephen Brown has played for the Great Britain national team. His uncle Mike McCoy played for the Green Bay Packers in the NFL.

Brown was born in Idaho and moved to Jordan when he was 3 months old. He learned to play baseball at the USA Embassy in Jordan. When he was 7, he moved to Great Britain, where he continued his playing baseball in atypical baseball countries, playing with the Windsor Bears and Bracknell Blazers. At age 15, he became one of the youngest players ever to appear on the British national squad in senior-level competition, walking 4 and allowing one hit in 3 scoreless innings in a friendly match against Sweden. He was 0 for 2 at the plate. Also in 2002, he helped his rugby team finish 9th in the English National Tournament. He then came to the USA for his last two years of high school.

As a junior, he hit over .400. As a senior, he batted .412/.519/.695 and was named his school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He also played wide receiver and tight end on the football field.

In the 2004 European Junior Championships, Brown was named Best Hitter and won the MVP award while playing for Great Britain. In the 2005 European Championship, he was a SS/3B for Britain and hit .313/.368/.313 while playing perfect defense in an excellent performance. He drove in the game-winner against Greece.

Going on to Stanford, Brown went 0 for 4 in 2006. He was with the Hawaii Alli's of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League that summer, hitting over .300. In the 2007 Stanford season, Stephen did not get into a game. He hit just .165 for the Woodstock River Bandits of the Valley League in summer ball. He also played in the 2007 European Championship, going 0 for 5 with a run as Britain won a Silver Medal to earn a spot in the 2009 Baseball World Cup.

Brown played one game for Stanford in 2008 but did not bat.
