Springfield Maroons

From BR Bullpen

While practically every early team in Springfield, MA was known as the Springfield Ponies, there was an exception in the 1895 Eastern League when there was a club called the Springfield Maroons (though some sources list them as the Ponies that year as well). The club won the EL pennant at 79-36 under the guidance of manager Tom Burns. OF Fielder Jones hit .424, while OF Henry Lynch hit .350, slugged .480, scored 111 runs in 105 games and stole 52 bases. Nixey Callahan (30-9, 2.48) led the league in wins while Bill Coughlin (24-8, 1.87) had the lowest ERA. Overall, the club hit .319, 16 points higher than the next team, and scored 937 runs to lead the circuit.
