The Springfield Chicks of Springfield, OH were an expansion team in the Middle Atlantic League in 1933. The Chicks went 67-64 and ace Rex McDonald was 19-10 with a 2.86 ERA and 181 strikeouts. Major league veteran Elmer Knetzer went 7-7 with a 4.88 ERA at age 48 while fellow ex-big-leaguer Jake Pitler (39 years old) hit .262/~.331/.311 as the regular second baseman. The top offensive players were SS Mike Noonan (.349/~.409/.613, 95 RBI, 26 HR, 21 SB in 24 tries) and 3B Bill McWilliams (.358/~.415/.621 in 76 games). The Springfield Pirates were the Mid-Atlantic League team in the city the next year.
