The last professional baseball team in Springfield, IL before 1978, the Springfield Giants played one year, in the 1950 Mississippi-Ohio Valley League. Managed by Ham Schulte until July 12 and Von Price thereafter, the Giants were not a New York Giants farm team. Springfield's attendance was 21,126, 6th in the 8-team MOVL. 37-year-old Schulte still hit .292/~.427/.370. Former Negro League pitcher Eddie Locke was the ace pitcher, going 10-8 with a 3.17 ERA. Overall, the club went 60-59 and finished fifth in the league.
