Owen "Spider" Clark' played in the majors in 1889 and 1890. He was an all-purpose backup, playing all nine positions on the diamond, and appearing at each position at least four times except for pitcher, where he only appeared once. He was in the minors in 1887 and 1888 before coming to the majors. He is the earliest player remembered by the nickname Spider; others have included Spider Jorgensen and Spider Wilhelm. He died at 24 in his hometown, Brooklyn from tuberculosis.
