South Vietnam
South Vietnam was a country located in southeast Asia which existed from 1954 to 1976. It was formed following the dissolution of the French colony of Indochina and lasted until it was annexed by North Vietnam to form the current country of Vietnam. Most of its history is concurrent with the Vietnam War, which pitted North and South Vietnam, with the participation of the United States armed forces.
Pitcher Danny Graves was the first and only major league player to be born in South Vietnam. A number of minor leaguers died in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
