Biographical Information[edit]
Sotero Ortiz starred for the Puerto Rican national team that won the 1951 Amateur World Series, their lone world title in baseball through 2023. He led the event with 21 runs and 10 steals. [1] His four doubles in the 1952 Amateur World Series tied for the lead and his 13 runs also were tied for the most; Puerto Rico won Bronze. [2] He played 8 games for the 1953 Olean Yankees, hitting .167. [3] The outfielder batted .279/.409/.397 for the 1954 Lexington Colts and was 5th in the Mountain States League with 18 steals. [4]
