Biographical Information[edit]
Sonny Hirsch was a long-time presence in Miami athletics. He started as a batboy for the Miami Orioles in the 1950s and would later be announcer, statistician and general manager of the Miami minor league teams. He was the first scorer for the Florida Marlins, holding that role from 1993 until 1998 until his death from a heart attack. He also was announcer for the University of Miami from 1958-1971 and 1983-1997. In 1998, Sonny received the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame's President's Award for Distinguished Service to the university. In 2012, he was inducted into the Florida State League Hall of Fame.
